Merry Meet All,
First, HAPPY SAMHAIN!! Next, here's a poem I wrote last year for Samhain. I posted it on another site, but got no response. Yes, I do realize that I am mix-matching holidays and Gods and Goddesses. but I was inspired and it fits. LOL. Anyway, enjoy.
The night of Samhain
‘Twas the eve of Samhain when all through the house and all through the house,
Every creature was stirring, even the mouse
The candles were lit on the altar with care
Safe in the knowledge the Lord and Lady soon would be there.
The children were nowhere near ready for bed
While visions of Cakes and Ale danced in their head
And Mamma in her robes and I in my hat
Had just begun to celebrate our favorite Sabbat
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter
We closed the Circle to see what was the matter
Away to the window I flew like a flash
And almost tripped over my favorite sash
The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow
Made me say, “Why is there a breast in the snow?”
When what to my wondering eye should appear
But the Triple Goddess and her green Consort dear
With their laughing and dancing so happy and gay
I knew then it was them, the Gods of the Fey.
More rapid than eagles their revelers came
They whistled and shouted and called them by name
“Now Goddess, now Lady, now Mother, now Crone
On Green Man, on Odin, on Jupiter and Pan
All across the porch and up next to the wall
Now dance away! Now sing away! Now play joyfully all
As dry leaves before the hurricane fly
They knew now obstacles, not even the sky
So up to the housetop the Couple they flew
Full of Peace, Love, Joy and merriment, too
And then in a twinkling I heard on the roof
The hopping and dancing of Green Man’s big hooves
As I drew in my hand and was turning around
In the front door they came with a bound
They were dressed all in robes, from their head to their foot
Hers white as snow, His black as soot
They laughed way out loud and threw their heads back
They laughed so loud I thought they would crack
Their eyes how they twinkled, their dimples how merry
She smelled of roses, He smelled of cherries
They danced and they sang and put on quite a show
They drank and laughed just like they were home
A green sprig of holly held tight in His teeth
And a bundle of laurels on His head like a wreath
She had a kind face and a light little step
Which was obvious as She danced and She leaped
They were happy and plump, the Gods of the Elves
So I laughed and danced with them, just being myself
A wink of the eye and a pat on the head
Made it even more clear I had nothing to dread
They sang out loud about joy and how it’s not work
How they love us all, even those of us with funny little quirks
She laid a kiss on the end of my nose
He gave me a nod and Mamma a rose
They danced ‘round again, then with a funny whistle
They all flew away, like the down of a thistle
But I heard them exclaim as they flew out of sight
“Bright blessings to all, and to all a good night!”
